Over the years the company has pursued values such as sustainable nutrition, high quality of raw materials and commitment to environmental protection with diligence.
Sustainability has always been a priority in the business development plan. Across the years many initiatives have been undertaken in order to preserve the environment and to reduce the Carbon Footprint.
A modern photovoltaic system has been integrated into the roofing of the plants, with its 500kWp power it covers approximately 50% of the company’s energy needs, making it increasingly independent of the electricity grid and at the same time limiting the environmental impact.
In the course of the years many initiatives have been undertaken in order to preserve the environment and to reduce the Carbon Footprint.
The solar thermal system designed to exploit the energy of the sun in order to heat the water necessary for the sanctification of the production plants is also significant.
The care about the consumption of plastic in packaging is also considerable. In recent years Alcass has minimized the thickness of plastic films for packaging products, without impairing their hygienic functionality. In terms of figures a saving of approximately 15,000 kg of material per year with important effects on the environment has been achieved.
Moreover caution as for the consumption of plastic in packaging activities is outstanding.
The decisive turn towards sustainability began as early as the 1990s when Alcass devised a new line of products similar to meat, but based on plant proteins such as soy, legumes, etc. … more sustainable than animal proteins.
For this reason, some of the most prestigious universities including Politecnico di Milano, Harvard Business School, UCD Dublin, University of Southern California, UCLA, have conducted and published research, identifying Alcass as a concrete example of innovation in the food industry in terms of sustainability.
